The Finnish coming-of-age romantic drama Girl Picture (Tytöt tytöt tytöt), directed by Alli Haapasalo, has been named as Finland's representative for this year's Oscar Academy Awards. Fresh and beautifully acted, the film has already successfully introduced new Finnish talents to audiences worldwide. Girl Picture had its world premiere at this year's Sundance Film Festival, winning the Audience Award, and has been receiving praiseful feedback since then.

Girl Picture is a story about three girls on three consecutive Fridays. The girls are at the cusp of womanhood, and the movie captures the whirlwind of their teenage lives and search for love.

The Finnish Oscar jury described Girl Picture as "a harmonious film which evokes emotions and keeps the audience engaged. Every facet of the film is of high quality, and it is an excellent specimen of its genre." The jury also complimented the fresh and modern acting.

The nomination was made by a jury of film professionals consisting of producer Max Malka, director Tommi Seitajoki, composer Lauri Porra, actress Katri-Maria Peltola, and Jaana Puskala, Head of the International Department at Finnish Film Foundation. Susanna Shepherd was secretary of the jury, chaired by Tero Koistinen from The Finnish Chamber of Films.

Every year, each country is asked to name one contender for the Academy Award for the Best International Feature Film. The official Oscar-criteria qualifications are made by the Academy of Motion Picture Arts and Sciences (AMPAS). These films must have premiered during 2022, the last day being 30 November.

The final nominations for the Oscar Awards will be published on 24 January 2023. The Oscar Gala takes place on 12 March 2023.
