Audiovisual industry professionals are gathering in Berlin for the 72nd Berlinale Film Festival and the European Film Market (EFM). The festival is being organized in hybrid mode, with screenings taking place in cinemas but EFM moving online.

Berlinale Series Market

The Berlinale Series Market will for the eighth time offer industry experts, rights holders, buyers and creatives a platform – this time in fully digital mode – to gather around the world of series. The event program is built on current developments and trends in industry and events such as talk shows, showcases, online screenings and much more. The aim of the event is to create more visibility for serial content.

EFM will this year include a Finnish showcase! In Focus on Finland drama showcase the creators of The Invincibles (Rosvopankki) (2023), Transport, Next of Kin and Enemy of the People (Kansan vihollinen) share their views on how to make content about global themes, their inspiration behind the stories and why it is important to take these “big themes to small screens”. What is the role of the stories of a small country like Finland in the field of global politics or phenomena? In addition to the online interviews Focus on Finland includes screenings of two new Finnish series: Next of Kin by Bufo and My Husband’s Wife by Lucy Loves Drama.

Last Minute Addition: My Home by Azar Saiyar also selected for Berlinale

Just before the beginning of the festival week Berlinale announced new screenings, notably the selection of a Finnish short film by Azar Saiyar: My Home (2022) for the Forum Expanded strand. Forum Expanded is a section independently curated and organized by Arsenal – Institute for Film and Video Art as part of the Berlinale. Read more: Finnish Film Foundation article.
