Finland's audiovisual production incentive for 2024 has been confirmed within the framework of the state budget proposal by the Ministry of Economic Affairs and Employment. The production incentive’s budget is approximately 10 million euros, and the online funding service will be opened 2.1.2024.

Interest towards the Finnish AV incentive has increased significantly in recent years, after being launched in 2017. Subsequent years have seen foreign productions discovering Finland in greater numbers, and Finnish crews and services have garnered a growing reputation for their efficiency and skill.

Funding applications accepted in January

The online funding service will open on January 2, 2024. Possible changes concerning the minimum requirements will be announced during week 47 of this year. Please familiarize yourself with the contents of the application and the list of compulsory attachments at Business Finland's cash-rebate website.

This year’s (2023) budget for the audiovisual incentive has been exhausted and the online service remains closed until the end of the year, after which the new budget will come into force.

Finnish content travels better thanks to audiovisual incentive

The audiovisual incentive has recently attracted productions from all over the world to film in Finland – a landscape still quite unseen on screens. It has also helped Finnish companies to invest in more ambitious projects than before. Great examples come from the animation field where Finnish companies such as Gigglebug and Gutsy Animations have recently collaborated with major animation studios like Nickelodeon, Warner Bros and Disney and created both their own IP and a service for big global projects.

Also, domestic drama production has grown thanks to the incentive. The crime series Sorjonen, All the Sins, and Ivalo, among others, have gained wide popularity worldwide. Jalmari Helander's film Sisu has attracted millions of viewers, and as a result, new types of tourists are also travelling to Utsjoki to see Sisu’s filming locations first-hand.
